The SMS Back Up and Restore Android app lets you backup and save your text messages, and call logs in your preferred folder or drive. With this leading back up app, you don’t have an excuse for losing your conversations anymore.

Design 9/10

The entire design is crisp, clear and simple and I give it a rating of 9/10. The icons on the APK download are intuitive and provide the user with adequate direction. On the main window you’ll see icons for Home, Backup, Restore, Transfer, Settings and other options from the developer. You will see options for Setting Up backups and advanced options such as message or conversation selection and picture or MMS selection.

Functionality 9/10

The app rates highly at 9/10 in terms of functionality, allowing you to back up your conversations, including MMSs, emojis and other special characters and your call logs. The app gives you options to choose what items to include in the backup such as entire or select conversations and the backup locations. For cloud backup and upload options, you can choose Google Drive, DropBox or email, and the latest version of the upload function doesn’t require you to install an SMS Back-Up and Restore add-on as before; new settings are integrated.

Restore works in the same way. Launch the app and choose Restore. You are prompted to select the items you want to be restored. If you are using a cloud service for your back up, you can do this process even on a different device. The user is also afforded the capability to select an automatic back up time for scheduled backups

The app doesn’t expressly use a Wi-Fi network as some may think, rather Wi-Fi direct. Therefore some devices may not be compatible. The app needs access to some phone functions such as messages, contact and call information, account information, phone calls, network view, and social information among others.

You can only have a restore from a backup done by this app FYI. Newer updates offer solutions to some problems such as crashes, better cloud upload progress reporting and folder selection.

The APK is download free although there is a pro-version of the same app that costs $4.99. There are no in-app purchases.

This is an app for all Android devices, and the compatibility varies with the Google Android device. The app is not compatible with iOS devices.

Ease of Use 10/10

The Google Play app for SMS Backup & Restore rates highly in its simplicity for me, and I give it a 10/10 rating. The app launches and works swiftly, and it only took me a few minutes to do a complete back up of my messages. I’ve switched phones twice since I downloaded this app first and so far it works perfectly. Though free, the ads never clutter your screen.

Final Opinion

This is a tool that everybody should have on their phones, especially if you switch devices frequently or if you have lots of important texts on your phone. The ability to save to cloud storage is a big plus for me. It’s easy to use and I’d recommend it to anyone.
